We are back to rain...ugh! We have had so much rain here lately. Yesterday was beautiful luckily for Kyler's football game and I hope tomorrow is back to being nice again because there is another football game.
So Kyler got his first detention of the year yesterday. I'm a little miffed however about it. I got a call from his science teacher at 4pm as I was on my way out the door to the game. She told me that Kyler ate the gummy bears they were using for an experiment AFTER they were done with it. I was like...ok? Then she said this was his third incident and that on the third, they get detention and a call home. I proceeded to ask when the other two were and she said they were at various times prior to today. I told her that I knew nothing about the previous two...grrr. So either it was up to Kyler to tell me or up to him to know he's been warned. Then she said that he didn't do the detention that day because of the game (so I'm thinking...ok not THAT big of deal then) so he will do it today. The football players get it worse because not only do they do detention....the coaches make them do extremely hard drills AFTER practice is over when they are wore out. I got to the game and was telling another mom about it and she was thinking the same as me...because of a gummy bear? Then another dad said his son got a detention from the same teacher that day too for getting up out of his seat when he wasn't supposed to. Then I found out 2 other kids got it as well. I'm thinking this teacher had a bad day and wasn't taking anything lightly!! Yes, I know these are 7th graders and they know better but sheesh!!

goodness, thats pretty lame. Can you call the school and talk to the principal or something? Especially with that many kiddos?
Yep... bad day. I know it sucks, but this one time I would let it go. If it happens again for something equally lame with the same teacher, then I would bring it to the principal...
oh my goodness I totally would have ate the gummi bears too! haha! :)
I'm adding you to my blog roll! I sure hope you don't mind. :)
Wow, this teacher is a little harsh. How could someone get detention for eating a gummy bear? Give me a break!
Visiting from SITS. I would talk to the principle about the situation. With that many kids getting detention from the same teacher on the same day there's something suspicious about that. I had a teacher like that in High School....In order for me to graduate I had to take two gym classes too because of that teacher.
Thanks for the comment on my blog and thanks for the idea for a blog designer too. Now I have a question for you...How did you get the "talk to me goose" next to your comments? I want to put something down there but I can't figure out how to do it.
When I was a 7th grade teacher that was a HUGE no no. Basically if we didn't call the parent at each warning they didn't count. And gummi bears??? Come on. Sounds like someone needs a visit from the Happy Hour fairy and needs to ease up on the kids. It's a hard thing to do, and I was bad at it my first year teaching, but it's definitely something the teacher needs to learn how to do.
sounds like a superstrict teacher...
Having a teen & tween myself, I can bet most of the time I am only getting 1/2 the story from them. Ask the teacher for specifics! Then you will know for sure whether she is being a hag or not. Because as a parent, we always want to believe it really wasn't that big of a deal!
because he ate the gummy bears? I'm confused ...why would he get detention for that? Otherwise, boys will be boys.
I guess they were specifically told NOT to eat them...he says he didn't eat them but some kid told the teacher he did. I am sure he did eat them, knowing my kid, but still...she had a bad day I think LOL Oh well, he got his punishment on the football field after detention. The coaches do not like kids getting it!!
